Each device that's connected to the Internet has a unique identifier referred to as IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes PCs, web servers, smartphones, switches, etcetera. The pool of IPs, which was introduced originally, has already been distributed, so the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are steadily being replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain which opens a website comes with an IP record, which is the address of the server where it's hosted. When using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is made up of four sets of numbers from 1 to 255 split up using a dot, while in the IPv6 system it's called AAAA and it consists of 8 groups of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this type of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An illustration of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format works with a considerably greater amount of IPs in comparison with the IPv4 format.

AAAA Records in Hosting

If you would like to create a new AAAA record a domain address or subdomain hosted within your hosting account, it is not going to take you more than a few easy steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia CP is extremely intuitive to use and it will enable you to set up or modify every record with ease. When you sign in and navigate to the DNS Records section, where you can find all present records for your domain addresses and subdomains, you will simply have to click the "New" button, pick out AAAA from a small drop-down options menu inside the pop-up that will appear, type or paste the needed IPv6 address and save the modification - it's as basic as that. The new record is going to be fully functioning within a maximum of one hour and the hostname you have created it for will start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. When required, you'll also be able to change the TTL (Time To Live) value, which shows the time in seconds which the new record will be live after you eventually modify it to something different or you simply delete it.

AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Creating a new AAAA record is very easy with our user-friendly Hepsia hosting Control Panel, so if you host a domain address within a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need such a record either for it or for a subdomain which you have created under it, you are going to be able to create it in a few very simple steps and without any hassle. Hepsia includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names in which you can find all current records or create new ones with a couple of mouse clicks. All it takes to do that is to pick the domain/subdomain you need to modify, select AAAA for the type from a drop-down menu and input the actual record i.e. the IPv6 address that the other company has given you. Within an hour after you save the change, the new record will propagate world-wide and your domain address will start directing to the third-party web server. If they demand it, you could also modify the TTL value, which shows the time this record shall be active with its present value before a new one takes over if you make any changes in the future.
