An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a computer system and is the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, which includes peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, web servers also use an Operating System that functions as a host for all the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so you will be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

If you choose to go for one of our VPS server packages, you shall be able to opt for one of the three Linux distributions that we offer for the OS of the servers - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're among the most well-known and most reliable server OSs available and we offer them in order to give you a choice for the software environment of your machine in case that you wish to install some application with particular requirements in terms of the packages that have to be present on the hosting server. We also offer three internet hosting Control Panels and which one of them you could use depends on the OS that you've selected. We leave the possibility to replace the server Operating System open, so if you want to use software that requires an OS different from the one you already have, we can always re-install the VPS. In addition, we can keep the OS up-to-date on a weekly basis by installing all of the security updates that may be released.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page since we want to give you a larger choice with regard to the system environment on your server as different apps may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and risk-free web hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you have selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also update the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
